DURZA
Name: Durza Telgast
Rank: Packleader, Illuay Weyr
Age: 37 Turns
Birth Date: 26491.05.12
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Demisexual
Craft: None
Craft Rank: --
Craft Strengths: --
Craft Weaknesses: --
Appearance:
That smile that flashes so white against her dark sin - her dark lips which are just slightly shaded pink and darker tinted than her already dark skin, which bares the marks of smithing and sun. Her lips are soft, supple, and far from thin. THey can curl easily into numerous expressions - from a smile to a grimace to a smirk. Expressive. That would be the correct word for them. Above her full lips is a rather broad, but short nose to which the nostrils flare when she is angry. On either side of her nose are large, dark brown eye with thing arching eyebrows. Around the left eye there are three long scars - scratches from Dusk herself. They start at her hairline and again at the edge of her jaw, becoming shallower down her neck and deeper again down her shoudler - as if the wheret had tried to climb her to be at face level.
Her hair is often braided or short cropped and black in color, sitting on her head much as a man's short haircut might, the length cut back into a messy couple of inches from her skull. Her neck is a long column often unadorned. She stands at an imperious 6 foot, two inches and is very aware of this fact. She is a shapely woman though she goes a bit beyond having an athletic or toned body to the point of being on the more muscular side. This is something else that comes from her job as a metalcrafter and the countless hours of training she has dedicated to learning to use the weapons she makes.
Speaking of weapons, though you may not see them, they are always there. Only one weapon does she ever wear openly - her bow and arrows. It's a little hard to hide these and they are wonderful for fighting from long range. Her preferred method of fighting, however, has always been up close and personal - with dangers. Which is probably why you will see her sporting more than a few scars... though some of those are admittedly from the forge and from one of her more unkind masters who burnt her mistakes into her.
Typically dressed in her gear and rarely, if ever, donning a dress or any sort of dress clothes, Durza still manages, somehow, to command some respect. Although Durza typically attributes this to her bad temper and overbearing height. Her presence, however is a bit on the intimidating side if only because she stands higher than some men. Her eyes are keen and always looking - watching for any and every sign of danger. She is slightly photophobic, the light being an extreme aggravater to her, but she puts up with it. She can be a bit grouchier though in such situations.
Personality:
Despite her serious nature, Durza is most often calm and collected. She is always thinking, her mind most often moving steps ahead of where she is currently. She never acts without careful consideration.. unless the situation warrants it. However, Durza is still prone to quick decisions and rash actions depending on her mood. You see, Durza is prone to mood swings from day to day, though her general mood seems to be fierce but calm at all times, an energy driving her forward, but a calm calculating within that as well. it is almost a paradox except for the fact that it works together as her drive keeps her moving forward and her calm an calculation keeps her steady.
Ambition is something that Durza does tend to lack, however, as she has no desire to be the leader, content to simply be a leader or a subordinate. She much rather lead the Hunt Pack and, all told, she rather not be the Jr. Wherwoman either. But it was that or Sr. Wherwoman it seemed at the time... and boy did she not like that idea. Besides... even as Jr. Wherwoman, there were just too many domestic affairs. While Dusk may be well suited, Durza is far from being well suited to care for such things. She is, simply put, a woman of action... and maybe some violence. The Smithcraft is her favorite pass time when she can find time to study and work towards her Msatership... though it will likely never happen.
Durza hs a great sense of responsibility and takes what duties she does have seriously. However, she doesn't have a great sense of self-worth and only trusts those abilities which she has been tested in and awarded for. She has a tendency to look down on herself, but that doesn't mean that her temper is never directed at others because, in fact, others may quickly become targets when she is in a bad mood. However, it is not with temper that many will find themselves her victim, but with a planned and thought out action and righteous retribution... well... unless your an enemy and then it might just be retribution.
Durza has a highly underdeveloped sense of right and wrong when it comes to her own actions as, to her, the ends always justify the means. If the end is going to lead to good, than it doesn't matter what happens along the way or what the means may be - even if those means are murder. The end must always be for the good of others and all things must be sacrificed for that good. That is the kind of person Durza has always been.
Sacrifice is not unknown to Durza. She will gladly sacrifice any or all of herself for the good of her Pack, the Whers, and her home. She is a ruthless fighter when she needs to be an a merciful governess when it is called for. However, all together she is a steel hearted queen. She lives with guilt and regret as silent companions, her heart hardened because of them and against them. They always fade in time after an action has been taken - especially when the good has been seen. If it has not been or will not be, these feelings may come unbidden to the surface in her dreams, but when awake, they are carefully tamped down and controlled.
Durza is prone to pride. Pride in the things she does. Pride in her Wher and the fine wherets she has produced. Pride in her abilities and the effort and time she puts into honing them. There is much in the world to be proud of and without pride you are wont to let others walk all over you - or so she thinks. Durza takes the most pride in those things which she practices. AFter all, when you get better at what you practice, it is oft a good thing to take pride in. She also takes pride in seeing someone she is teaching take a new stride - get better at the task. She loves this. However, she is a hard task master to herelf and whatever students or Packmembers she may be teaching and can be harsh and unforgiving when mistakes are made or a task takes too long to complete correctly... and often times it it is not good enough.

HISTORY:
Durza, like all her siblings, was primarily the product of a Flight between their mother or father and another rider. She wasn't raised by her parents at all, though she knew who they were as it wasn't kept much of a secret from her - especially since her parents had been mated for a short time after her, long enough to give birth to her younger brother Z'zan or, at the time, Zaemorazan. He would be her only full blooded brother as it were. After him came a score of half brothers and a couple of half sisters that would number eleven siblings in total including her two older half siblings, Zarrede and Damorozan.
When Durza was thirteen turns old, she was adopted by and apprenticed to the master Metalcrafter in the Hold, Kilorin where she trained hard for years in metalcrafting... and in fighting. Everyone had to learn to fight and she certainly wouldbe one of them. One of her biggest desires was and is to protect those she cares for and so she applied herself, working all the harder. She always had a very zealous sense of duty and honor, though no desire to lead. She worked hard and worked her way up to journeyman - walking the tables at eighteen turns old and moving on to learn from another Master at another Hold which she continued to do for two turns, making weapons for the soldiers and itching to join the fight herself. She was seen as a metalcrafter and not a warrior... she knew that. However, she continued to practice her mastery of the fighting arts. Without proper training, however, she was never going to be as good as the guards and soldiers.. or professional fighters who had been trained their whole lives for that. But she had an idea. She would stand for a clutch or a wher clutch. However, she much preferred the hold to the Weyr as well asthe positiosn wherhandlers could often fill. She foudn much about the idea of fighting alongside and training a wher to be quite thrilling. It was good that she had been preparing the weapons for and had been learning from some of the masters best liked by the military and their leaders as well as the gold wherhandler there are Fort Hold... she was able to obtain an egg.
What she was not expecting was to be given a golden egg when she approached for the clutch, the mother picking that egg for her, that baby hatching for her and revealing a beautiful gold of three colors, stripes on her face and tail, darker wings and back, and speckles of lighter gold on her body. When that gold was first hatched she tried to climb up Durza's side and face, scratching her and licking the blood in the process at first.
Their wherlinghood would not be uneventful... it would not be easy. Durza and Dusk would push themselves to their limits and beyond as they trained and prepared. She pushed Dusk, gained control over her... focusing on trying to not just control her but keep her in hand. She was always a territorial and irritable gold... not to mention big. That was when Durza first got involved hiring herself out as a guard and soldier and, after a few turns of training, she took lead of the wher guard. In fact, it was during the Sunstone War. She ended up having one particular bronzehandler in her midst that she both hated and was qutite fond of at once. He was a good soldier.... but he didn't take his duty seriously enough in her opinion.
When the war was over, Durza spent time practicing, training, and generally caring for her wher... though she still worked at her craft. She has yet to achieve mastery, however, as it is quite hard to do and be a head wherhandler hired by Fort. A bronze rider that was her second by this point. He backed her decisions... even if he didn't always follow the rules. It was one man's bronze that caught Dusk several tiems during her runs... and as a result of one of these runs, Durza had a child by her second. A young boy was born who is now two Turns old and has helped things to remain calmer between the two. He is a good father.
Durza spends much of her time working with others, a task she isn't always fond of depending on the person, and nursing along her gold's clutches and helping train wherlings... since she can't stand to leave it entirely in the hands of someone else. She also spends a lot of time with her son. Just about all the time she can in fact. Which also means spending a lot of time with her son's father... who she is warming up to more adn more generally.
